It is impossible to ignore the circumstances surrounding the production of one of the most famous, unrealized Hollywood sci-fi scripts. Sometime in the 1970s, Clair Noto set foot in the Dream Factory as the author of a female James Bond adventure at the invitation of producer Ray Stark ( We Were Like This ). Previously - as Clara Noto - she had entered the profession as a dialogue editor for the film Women in Prison Terror and the Vietnam documentary Hearts and Minds , but her screenwriting activities were positively reported, and the aforementioned spy story attracted the interest of the later The Mummy producer, Sean Daniel. With his encouragement, she signed up for the spec script called The Tourist , which was being prepared at Universal : initially it went well, but when the last pages were submitted, Daniel left his chair and passed the tasks to Renée Missel ( Nell, the Hermit ).
